R – Value For Our Steel Front Entry Doors

The door to your home plays a major role in heat gain and loss. The “R” in R-Value stands for resistance and the higher the value the longer a material retards the movement of heat. Our steel front entry doors have a wooden frame.  Some insulating properties are  naturally inherent in wood. In addition all of our steel doors come standard with a thick polyurethane foam insulation which allows the R-Value to be higher and better insulates the front door to your home. Thick polyurethane foam can add up to anywhere from 0.10-0.20 U-Value to the door which is much higher compared to fiberglass doors. Another great feature to our steel doors is the air sealing ability of our doors thanks to the weather stripping.  Depending on what type of weather stripping is used , proper seals can add anywhere from 0.4-0.8 U-Value to the door itself.

When inquiring about a door , please specify the location of your home and the location of the door. It is important not to forget about the SHGC ( Solar Heat Gain Coefficient ) .  SHGC is a  measure of how well a glazed door assembly absorbs or reflects heat from the sun. The lower the coefficient, the better the glazed door is at blocking the sun's heat. Glazed doors in hot or temperate climates should have a low SHGC; south-facing glazed doors in cold climates should have a high SHGC.

** Do Not Use Power Tools To Regulate Hinges **

Manufacturers warranty void if:

- Door is being exposed to direct sun light for most of the day. Direct sun shine can heat the glue causing metal elements to come off as well as deform the door surface causing bulges or cave ins.

- Constant and direct rain is hitting the door. Inward opening door can sometimes leak if strong and direct rain is acting upon the door. To reduce chance of leaking it is recommended that if such weather conditions are present, you use storm door or door awning. It is also recommended to use granite flooring or tiles insead of wooden floor in close premises of the door.
